Buy Firestone Van Tyres Online

Founded in 1909, Firestone has enjoyed a long racing history, and was one of the original early 20th century equipment suppliers to the Ford Motor Company. Firestone continues to inspire generations of drivers both on and off the track with an advanced range of tyres built for safety, reliability and value for money - tyres that not only honour Firestone's proud heritage but also its vision for the future. Today, Firestone is part of the Bridgestone group, and offers affordable, quality tyres for family drivers of small to medium sized vehicles. With Firestone tyres, you can expect superb performance at great prices.  Van tyres need to be extra-strong to cope with carrying heavy, bulky, sometimes awkward loads. Heavy and unbalanced loads can put extra pressure on the suspension and brakes but firm tyres help to balance the stresses. When buying van tyres, the load rating is important because it determines the weight that each tyre is able to safely carry. You should never drive your van on tyres without sufficient load bearing capacity.

Types of Van Tyre

As with regular tyres, there are three main types of van tyre available: winter, summer, and all-season.

Winter van tyres are designed to remain reliable at low temperatures, and also to provide excellent traction, grip and handling on ice or snow. To achieve this, they are constructed from a softer rubber compound with deep wide grooves. Most also have swept-back sipes on the tyre shoulders that help to disperse water rapidly in very wet conditions. Winter tyres are not mandatory in the UK.

Summer van tyres are optimised for performance in warm drier months but can also cope with some wet weather. They provide nimble handling and maximum fuel economy. Although they are often used year-round in the UK, they become less effective when temperatures drop below about 7°C.

All-season van tyres (also sometimes referred to as four season tyres) are designed to provide a safe and comfortable drive in dry and wet conditions, in winter or summer. They are made from rubber similar to winter tyres so can be used in temperatures down to -10°C and up to 30°C plus, so you do not have to switch tyres as the seasons change. Their tread pattern is optimised to disperse water, preventing aquaplaning. Their versatility does mean, however, that they are not quite as good as summer tyres in summer months, or as good as winter tyres in winter months. They are a happy medium.

    Tyres for your car

Tyres may not be the first thing you consider when it comes to vehicle safety, but tyres are your vehicle’s only link with the road. In fact, your safety (and that of your passengers) actually relies on an area of contact between the tyre and the road surface, which is no bigger than the palm of your hand.
