How to find your tyre size

It's important to know which tyre size fits your car before you start an order.

If you're unsure of how to check yours, please don't hesitate to ask a member of our team for help. In the meantime, consult our handy terminology guide below.

With 205/55 R15 91V as an example, the size can be understood as follows:

·        Width: The first three digits (205) indicate the tyre width in millimetres.

·        Profile: The fourth and fifth digits (55) show the sidewall height as a percentage of the tyre width. It's also known as the aspect ratio.

·        Rim size: The letter R followed by numbers (R15) is the rim diameter in inches.

·        Load index: The next two numbers (91) describe the maximum weight the tyre can take.

·        Speed rating: Shown as a letter (V), this is part of an alphabetic code denoting the top speed the tyre can handle over an extended period.

What are the best premium tyres?

The best premium tyres for you will depend on several other factors. These include the type of vehicle you own, how heavy your load will be, and the weather conditions you’ll be driving in. A couple of our top picks include:

Pirelli P Zero

Many of our premium tyre customers love the Pirelli P Zero, with its distinctive S-shaped grooves in the tread area. Along with looking stylish, this detail helps to deliver lower cabin noise levels and enhance driver comfort.

This quality tyre is approved for so many vehicles, including those made by Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche and more. We have a huge range of Pirelli tyres to choose from.

Michelin CrossClimate

The Michelin CrossClimate offers the ultimate all-weather performance for keen drivers. It delivers superior wet, dry and snow braking, smooth handling, and conserved fuel efficiency. If you're looking for these attributes with all the benefits of winter tyres in traction, this is the year-round premium tyre for you.

How much do premium tyres cost?

Most premium tyres cost slightly more than the mid-range alternatives, but high-quality tyres can save you money in the long run and keep you and your family safe. They also generally last significantly longer and contribute to improved fuel efficiency.

Prices start from comfortably under £100, but you could be looking at hundreds more for wider premium tyres developed for high-performance sports cars. The widest examples frequently cost more than £400.
