Buy Mid-Range Tyres Online

Protyre is your one-stop shop for efficient and dependable mid-range tyres. We stock the best mid-range tyre brands on the market, including FalkenGT Radial and Sumitomo. With local Protyre centre fitting coming as standard, and same day fitting available on most mid-range tyres, you can enjoy an immediate boost to safety, ride and performance.

When you are looking for a new set of tyres, there are a myriad of options to choose from. You need to choose from a wide variety of manufacturers, make a choice between budget, premium or even mid range car tyres, consider the benefits of all-seasons, run-flats, XL-rated tyres and so on. It can be enough choice to give someone a headache! While premium tyres come with many specialised benefits, when looking for tyres mid range can still be a great choice. In general, mid range tyres are a happy medium between the premium and budget models out there. Most are significantly more robust and longer lasting than some of the budget tyre brands, On the other hand, they probably will not come with the same levels of high performance that you find in the premium models - but some do. Of course, you expect there to be a trade-off, so most mid-range brands are less expensive than their premium brand equivalents. That means you can strike a better price/performance balance

Buying mid-range car tyres online is simple when you choose Protyre. All you need to do is follow these three straightforward steps and you’ll be well on your way to rolling out the workshop.

What are mid-range tyres?

Mid-range tyres offer a great midpoint between budget and premium tyres. They are more durable and perform better than budget tyres but don’t offer the cutting-edge features you’ll find most premium tyre models on the market provide.

Generally, however, mid-range tyres mean a great ride, solid grip performance, low noise and sound passenger comfort.

Mid-range winter tyres are also available – just check for the snowflake icon in our tyre product listings – and most of the category can be relied on in testing weather conditions.

You are best using them if you drive a non-sports vehicle on roads and motorways, but not off-road or on the track, and clock up a moderate annual mileage. If you’re unlikely to push your vehicle too hard on the road, then mid-range tyres can be an excellent option.

What’s the difference between mid-range and other tyres?

So, what are the exact differences between mid-range and other tyre types?

  • Budget tyres: These generally don’t offer as much in terms of performance, grip characteristics, noise control, comfort and longevity compared to mid-range tyres. Budget tyres are an excellent stopgap measure for drivers suffering from a puncture, lost tread and low funds, but for everyday driving, mid-range makes more sense. As noted previously, unlike budget tyres, there are several mid-range winter tyres on offer too.

  • Premium tyres: Mid-range tyres are made from dependable materials, but these are not at the level you’ll find in premium products, which contain cutting-edge compounds and designs honed through extensive track testing. Premium tyre models are therefore much more durable, with higher performance – best for drivers that are behind the wheel of faster vehicles for long stretches of time or under extreme driving conditions.

What are the best mid-range tyre brands?

Protyre stocks plenty of mid-range tyre brands. These are some of the foremost you can choose from:

Falken

Combining performance and value, Falken mid-range tyres are trusted by countless motorists. Whether you need summer or winter performance, run flat capabilities or a tyre that can handle a larger load, there’s a Falken tyre for you.

GT Radial

GT Radial tyres are driven around the globe and the brand is one of the market leaders in terms of revenue and number of tyres sold. They are a no-nonsense option, offering excellent reliability yet priced on the lower end of the spectrum compared to top tyre brands.

Sumitomo

For over 100 years Sumitomo tyres have been delivering drivers exceptional drive characteristics thanks to their highly developed construction, rubber compounds and designs that improve grip, braking, wet handling and mileage.

Hankook

Hankook produce mid-range tyres designed for all manner of drivers, vehicle models and weather conditions – rain, snow or shine. With a set of Hankook tyres you can drive safely, with great traction and braking performance.

How to find your tyre size

Before you order a set of mid-range tyres, it’s a good idea to check the exact type your car is designed to run. All the information you need is marked on the tyre’s sidewall as numbers and letters, separated by forward slashes. For example, a common marking is 205/55 R15 91V.

  • Width – The first three digits (205) represent the width of the tyre in millimetres.

  • Profile – The fourth and fifth digits (55) show the sidewall height as a percentage of the tyre width. It is also known as the aspect ratio.

  • Rim size – The letter R followed by numbers (R15) is the tyre’s inner rim diameter in inches.

  • Load index – The next two numbers (91) are a numerical code that describes the maximum weight the tyre can take.

  • Speed rating – This letter (V) is part of an alphabetic code that notes the top speed the tyre can handle over a long period of time.

Your vehicle manufacturer should note the correct tyre code for your vehicle in your manual and using tyres with lower performance than required can void your insurance.

    Tyres for your car

Tyres may not be the first thing you consider when it comes to vehicle safety, but tyres are your vehicle’s only link with the road. In fact, your safety (and that of your passengers) actually relies on an area of contact between the tyre and the road surface, which is no bigger than the palm of your hand.
