The iconic Pirelli brand, which was created in 1872 by Giovanni Battista Pirelli, originally specialised in rubber, other polymer processes, and manufacturing breathing apparatus for scuba diving gear. The real magic began when Pirelli focussed on manufacturing tyres. Our team at Protyre can talk about tyres all day long - we are passionate about tyres and considered the UK's foremost fitter and supplier. Discussing a superior performance product such as the Pirelli P-Zero Nero GT car tyre opens the throttle to the high-powered world of the UHP tyre.
The traditional definition of the UHP tyre was the ultra-high-performance rating given to a tyre rated V or higher. The V refers to your tyre's speed rating - with a V tyre rating, you are looking at a tyre that can reach speeds of approximately 149 miles per hour. UHP tyres transform a vehicle's performance, delivering the superior grip and excellent heat dissipation essential to superior vehicle performance and experience. UHP tyres are equipped to deal with faster speeds, additional horsepower, torque, g-force, augmented brakes and performance-driven sports suspension. They do not last as long as ordinary tyres and as they are usually found on top-end sports cars, it is understandable that UHP tyres have developed a reputation of being too performance focussed.
Pirelli developed the P-Zero Nero GT tyre for sporty vehicles and saloons; in doing so, it has extended the expected life of the tyre by 20 per cent. The P-Zero Nero GT range is an evolution of the original Pirelli P-Zero Nero tyre. When developing the GT, Pirelli focussed on marrying better materials with a greater contact patch to enhance durability. This tyre is intended as an after-market replacement product for medium- to large-engine sports vehicles and saloons, such as the Volkswagen Polo and Golf, Audi A3, Audi A6, and Mercedes E-class.
The Pirelli P-Zero Nero GT tyre enjoys all these optimisations without sacrificing driver experience, safety or performance. The 20 per cent improvement on the life cycle of this tyre is due in part to the silica content, with this balancing of compounds greatly improving dry braking, stability and handling. In addition to optimising performance, Pirelli's renowned research team focussed its talents on providing larger tyres. The Pirelli P-Zero Nero GT tyre range comprises 60 sizes, 11 of which are new options for vehicles using 17- to 19-inch wheels.
