Budget Car Tyres

While you shouldn’t expect the same performance from a budget tyre that you’d receive from a premium brand, most budget, or value tyres, will fit in with most driving situations. However, in our experience and from the results that we have seen over the years, budget tyres will not last as long or grip the road in the same way that premium tyres do. Of course, longevity and grip are two of the main concerns that impact motorists - although the importance of these two factors will depend on your individual needs, including how much you drive and your driving style. Other factors that will be affected by budget tyres include considerations such as driver comfort, noise and the fuel economy of your car.
The composition of the rubber can vary significantly from tyre to tyre, but most value tyres will provide you with a comfortable ride with sufficient grip for inner city and town driving.
However, it is probably best to avoid serious winter and snowy conditions where budget tyres could struggle. Motorways may also produce higher noise levels, while still returning good fuel economy. However, you should expect higher wear than mid-range and premium tyres.
If you do lots of small journeys and you get caught out with a puncture and need to change your tyres quickly, then the economy option could be a good solution, especially if you’re short on cash. In addition, if you own a second car that doesn’t see as much use, opting for budget tyres is more likely to suit the vehicle relative to the amount of mileage it does. Budget tyres might wear out faster, but if you’re not going to be using them very much before you change vehicles in the future, then the cost of premium tyres might well outweigh the benefits.

You might want to consider purchasing economy-class tyres if the following apply:

  • You drive under 8000 miles on an annual basis
  • You drive mostly within urban areas
  • You own a compact city car
  • You drive in a calm manner
