Mercedes Service

Mercedes-Benz servicing works on an alternating pattern rather than a single annual job. Service A and Service B cover different ground, and the ASSYST or ASSYST PLUS system in the car decides which is due based on mileage, time and how the vehicle has been driven. Get the sequence wrong and items such as the dust and combination filter can be skipped for years without anyone noticing.

Protyre carries out Mercedes-Benz servicing at over 190 centres nationwide, with qualified technicians and OEM parts fitted and guaranteed. Block exemption rules mean using an independent garage will not affect your manufacturer warranty, as long as the correct schedule is followed and parts of matching quality are used.

Service A and Service B: knowing which one is due

In broad terms, Service A is the lighter of the two and Service B the fuller job, and the car alternates between them. Both include an engine oil and filter change and a full inspection. Service B adds items on a longer cycle, the combination filter among them, and brake fluid falls due on its own two-year pattern alongside.

Oil approval matters as much as the interval. Mercedes-Benz specifies its own sheets, and a diesel with a particulate filter needs a low-ash oil that a petrol engine of the same age does not. Using the wrong sheet shortens filter life and can bring a costly replacement forward by years.

We read the service requirement from the car, confirm the correct specification from your registration, then reset ASSYST and record the work so your digital service history stays intact.

Mercedes-Benz models we service

● A-Class, B-Class, CLA and CLA Shooting Brake. Frequent short journeys are common here, which makes oil condition and filter changes the priority.

● C-Class, E-Class and CLS. Saloon, Estate, Coupe and Cabriolet. On larger wheel fitments we pay close attention to tyre wear patterns and suspension condition.

● S-Class. AIRMATIC air suspension, larger braking systems and more electronics to assess, all covered by the inspection.

● GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS and G-Class. Extra kerb weight puts more demand on brakes, steering and tyres, so SUV tyres and wheel alignment are checked as standard.

● V-Class, Vito and Sprinter. Working vehicles carrying weight most days, where brake and tyre condition deserve a closer look. Van tyres are available for same day fitting.

● EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE and EQS. No oil service, but brake fluid, coolant, cabin filtration and high-voltage system checks all still apply.

● AMG models. Higher power, larger discs and low-profile rubber, inspected and reported without shortcuts.

MO and MOE tyres explained

Mercedes-Benz approves specific tyres for many of its models, marked MO on the sidewall, or MOE where the tyre has extended mobility construction and the car has no spare wheel. The approval reflects joint development work on ride, noise and steering response for that particular platform.

You are not obliged to fit an approved tyre, and plenty of excellent alternatives exist. It is worth knowing what was originally specified, though, particularly on an air-sprung car or an MOE fitment where replacing like for like keeps the puncture strategy the same. Our teams will explain the options across car tyres before you decide.

Work that falls outside Service A and B

A few Mercedes-Benz jobs keep their own diary.

Automatic transmission fluid and filter changes on 7G-Tronic and 9G-Tronic units are the most commonly overlooked. Interval guidance varies by gearbox and by how the car is used, and towing or heavy urban work brings it forward. Hesitant or harsh shifting is often the first sign that the fluid has had enough.

Diesels with SCR need AdBlue, and running the tank dry will eventually stop the engine restarting. We check level and top up as part of the service. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and generally needs renewing every two years whatever the mileage, and a Mercedes AC service keeps cooling performance where it should be. Refrigerant type differs between generations, R1234yf on newer cars and R134a on older ones, and they are not interchangeable.

Start-stop models use AGM batteries matched to the system fitted, and the replacement usually needs coding to the vehicle.

Mercedes MOT and service in one visit

Combining an MOT with the service saves a second trip and means advisories can be talked through while the car is on site. Add the test at booking, or ask when you drop the vehicle off.

Putting maintenance off is rarely the cheaper route, as what happens when you delay car servicing sets out.

Tyres, servicing and MOTs in one place

● Car Tyres across budget, mid-range and premium brands including Falken, Dunlop, Michelin and Continental, with same day fitting on stocked sizes.

●  Car Servicing to the manufacturer schedule, for Mercedes-Benz and every other make and model we cover.

● MOT Testing with honest reporting and repairs quoted before any work begins.

Tread depth is measured against the 1.6mm legal minimum at every visit, and a free tyre check or free brake check is available between services at no cost.

Mercedes Servicing FAQs

Mercedes-Benz diagnostic checks at our centres use manufacturer-level equipment to read fault codes across the engine, transmission and body systems, since a generic scanner cannot always access everything a Mercedes reports. This is particularly relevant on air suspension and hybrid models, where a warning light can relate to several systems at once.

Brake pads for Mercedes wear at different rates depending on the model and how it is driven, and on hybrid EQ models pads often last considerably longer because regenerative braking does much of the slowing. A Mercedes brake disc can still corrode even when the pads look barely used, so we check disc condition as well as pad thickness at every service.

Mercedes-Benz exhaust and muffler work is carried out at our centres, including particulate filter and sensor issues on newer diesel models as well as corrosion on older cars. We diagnose the specific fault behind any warning light before quoting, since it does not always mean the whole system needs replacing.

Slow starting and dashboard warning messages are the usual signs, though a start-stop Mercedes battery has to support far more electrical load than an older car’s, so it can fail with little warning. Mercedes car battery specification also varies by model, an A-Class battery is not the same as one fitted to a larger saloon, and any replacement needs coding to the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz air suspension, badged AIRMATIC or Active Body Control depending on the model, is inspected for leaks, compressor condition and ride height as part of a full service. Air suspension faults are diagnosed through the vehicle’s own systems rather than guessed at, so we read the fault codes before recommending any work.
