The Protyre Plymouth team lead by Centre Manager Gary Patrick (pictured with Trevor Rule fund raising assistant and Rider volunteer) attended the BMAD (Bikes Making A Difference) festival earlier this month.

The purpose of the annual BMAD show is to raise money for local charities in the community and since its beginnings in 2002 it has become one of the biggest biker, music and beer festivals in the South West of England.

Protyre Plymouth via their own independant raffle held at their stand raised £130 for the Devon Freewheelers.

The Devon Freewheelers are a team of volunteers who provide a 24/7 service to support the NHS in delivering essential blood supplies for the purposes of transfusion, blood samples for testing, organs and human tissue for the purposes of transplant, medication direct to patients at home in the case of urgent need and Donor Breast Milk to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units throughout Devon.

More recently the Freewheelers have been a bit further afield supporting patients in crisis outside of the county and have also begun transporting life-saving blood direct to Air Ambulances. Last year alone they saved over 30 lives with on scene blood transfusions.

If you would like to join the BMAD community at their next event, you can read more about them on their website

BMAD also run regular Bike Nights from June until the end of September on Wednesday evening and have recently launched their Zom-B-MAD event in early October.
