Mandatory MOT tests to return on 1st August

The Department for Transport has today confirmed that the annual MOT test for cars, vans, and motorcycles is to become mandatory again from Saturday 1st August as lockdown measures begin to ease across the country.
In March, a six-month MOT exemption was granted to motorists in a bid to slow the coronavirus outbreak, with drivers being responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and safe. During April and May, national MOT test volumes were at just 2.2m, down from the 7.2m carried out in the UK during the same period in 2019.
As non-essential services begin to reopen more vehicles are expected back on the roads, so making sure MOTs are up to date will help keep yourself and others safe while driving. October will see the first wave of vehicles who took up the six-month exemption requiring an MOT test – as well as motorists whose tests were already due during this month.
Protyre has increased its capacity to carry out more MOTs as we expect consumer demand to be very high. We remain committed to keeping our customers on the road, but we strongly recommend that MOTs are booked well in advance in order to beat the inevitable rush which can be done so via our website. If you get an MOT and a gold or silver service before 31st July, you will get your MOT for free and £15 of free fuel.

Any test carried out in one of our centres will be done so under strict social distancing measures while ensuring our safety protocols remain in place; including new gloves and masks being worn by staff for each job, hands being washed between every test, and fresh seat covers being used in all vehicles.

For those who are vulnerable and wish to remain in self-isolation, Protyre are able to offer a collect and deliver service. To find out more about this, please contact your local centre.
All of our centres are open, safe, and COVID secure and our MOT testers are IMI qualified from our ProTech Academy, meaning you can be confident you will receive a thorough and quality MOT within our centres while keeping safe.
