Tyres for my Yamaha BT 1100 Motorcycle
The first Yamaha motorcycle, created in 1955, was the distinctive Red Dragonfly. Since then Yamaha have risen to become the third most popular manufacturer in the United States and are responsible for creating the first trail bikes in the 1960s with the release of the iconic DT-1 in 1968.
Yamaha claim this is motorcycling as it should be with pure unadulterated V-twin character. There’s plenty of that classic V-twin purr to be heard from a lively engine that develops decent torque straight out of the blocks. This beast of a motorcycle is also a super comfortable cruiser, made for heading out on the highway.
In terms of styling, the Bulldog is pure muscle bike with that naked V-twin delivering plenty of muscular charm. More a cruiser than a pure roadster, this bike is a solid and honest chunk of metal designed to deliver sporty performance on country lanes and a comfortable ride for long distance touring. The figures bear that out with the Bulldog achieving relatively gentle figures for peak power and torque that belie its brutish exterior.
The well-sprung suspension depends on 43mm telescopic forks and handling is smooth and assured. This is a great choice of bike if you want to look like a streetfighter but enjoy a safe, secure and reliable ride over a long distance. Throttle up and enjoy the reassuring exhaust note rumble, select first gear on the five-speed box and accelerate away with the unmistakable feel of a Harley.
Handling is a real pleasure and, although the forks and shocks are non-adjustable unlike the Ducati Monster with which the Bulldog is often compared, the overall ride quality, cornering and road handling are exceptional. Making the most of the torque curve and the low centre of gravity of a bike that weighs in at a healthy 229.5kg to achieve a smooth, controlled ride, owners can enjoy the fusion of Japanese functionality and Italian style.
