The Triumph Bonneville is a classic motorcycle with a parallel-twin four-stroke engine. First produced in 1959, the name Bonneville comes from the Bonneville Salt Flats in the US. This has seen many famous attempts at breaking motorcycle speed records, including the 214mph record set by Texas racer Johnny Allen in 1956. The original T120 model was based on the Triumph Tiger T110 and could achieve a speed of 115mph without any modification. In 1967, an estimated 28,000 T120s were sold in the United States.

In 1975, the T120 was superseded by the T140, which featured a larger engine, a more reliable ignition system and a superior five-speed gear box. In September 2001, the Bonneville 800 came into production and was originally built exclusively in England in Hinckley, Leicestershire. This model was very similar in style and configuration to the classic version but featured a 790cc parallel-twin engine. In 2005, the T100 Bonnie was launched. Based upon the successful formula of the original but with modern engineering, fuel consumption of around 52-56 mpg and a reasonable price tag, the T100 Bonnie is becoming an increasingly popular motorcycle.
What are the optimum tyres for a Triumph Bonneville motorcycle and where can you get them? There are three models of the Bonneville available: the base version, the SE version and the T100. The standard tyres provided are a 100/90-19 57H Metzeler Lasertec on the front and a 130/80-17 65H ME Z2 on the rear; needless to say, these offer good stability.
If you are looking for a sportier option, the Avon Roadrider or the Bridgestone BT45 could be best for you. The Dunlop StreetSmart also offers an excellent blend of durability and performance.
For optimum performance, the Dunlop GT501 is well worth considering and offers superior grip in all conditions. If you are high-mileage rider/commuter, the Avon AM26 Roadrider could be for you.
