The first Kawasaki GPZ 400 Sports motorcycle first appeared in 1983 and was soon followed by the 400S “Sports Tourer” version and the 400R “Super Sports”. Be aware that different versions of this bike were fitted with significantly different rims and tyres. Be sure to check your manual and existing tyre walls for the correct sizes. On the original Kawasaki GPZ 400, tyres were usually a 90/90-18 on the front and a 110/80-18 on the rear, but a combination of 90/90-19 and 110/90-18 is also found. On all versions of the 400 R your sizes are likely to be 100/90-16 at the front and a 130/90-16 behind, and on the 400 S, a 100/90-16 at the front and a 120/90-16 is normal. We would advise a minimum V rated tyre for the faster models in this motorcycle family.
 
If the Kawasaki GPZ 400 has a weak point then it is probably the suspension. It is reliable enough, but original components were fairly modest in order to keep the bike’s price low enough for the “first serious bike” segment of the market. If you want to improve the comfort of the ride, buying new Kawasaki GPZ 400 tyres is an opportunity to do so. Look for a quiet softer rolling tyre.
