Tyres: what are my options during lockdown?

By Julia Freeman

The latest guidance from the UK government is very clear. We must maintain social distancing in order to protect our NHS and keep it from being overwhelmed by new cases of people becoming infected with COVID-19. With this guidance comes a whole range of questions as to how we continue to live our lives whilst under lockdown.

In these extraordinary times, a simple task such as getting a new set of tyres for a personal or commercial vehicle can become a feat of logistics.

Cutting down on non-essential journeys means that most of us are getting into our cars far less often at the moment. This of course decreases wear and tear on most parts of the vehicle, but at the same time, it means that when a car is needed, it is for an essential purpose and it is of paramount importance that it will work reliably.

Here at Protyre, we are changing some of the ways in which we operate in order to help you get the service you need from our tyre professionals, whilst keeping everybody safe. Let's take a look at some of your options for getting a new set of tyres, whether you are looking for some premium Bridgestone tyres, or something more budget conscious.

Mobile tyre fitting

Due to the current restrictions on movement, we have ramped up our mobile tyre fitting service, enabling customers to get a new set of tyres at home or work, without the need to go out and visit our garages. This cuts down on social contact and also allows you to get a new set of tyres when you work from home or look after your children. If you have to go into the office, we can meet you there instead and carry out the work on your car.

Collect and deliver service

We are also able to offer a collection and delivery service, where our tyre professionals can pick your car up from your home, complete all necessary work and return it when the work is done. All of this can be done contact-free, with our drivers using single-use seat and steering wheel covers to minimise contact with your vehicle.

Garages open as usual

Under government advice, most of our branches remain open to help keep key workers on the road. As you may expect, the way in which we serve our customers has to be different from usual in order to maintain social distancing. We have implemented daily deep cleaning within all garages, with new gloves and seat covers used on each vehicle. Staff will wash hands between each job, and customers are asked to observe social distancing by using marked lines to remain 2m apart.

With this in mind, service in centres may take a little longer than you might ordinarily expect, in order to keep customers and staff safe.

Book with Protyre

If you need some new tyres in order to keep your car on the road in these difficult times, you can purchase them online with our our easy-to-use tyre finder guide, or contact the centre manager at your local Protyre to discuss your requirements further. Even through lockdown, we have same day fitting across much of our range, as well as appointments for our range of free vehicle safety checks that can give you peace of mind motoring while you make those essential journeys.
