Mobile car battery fitting service

t was recently reported that 36% [1] of breakdown callouts in 2022 related to flat batteries. Generally, you will notice some early warning signs that your battery is losing power, such as it becoming harder or taking longer to start your car after it has been stood for a while, hearing only a clicking noise when you turn the key in the ignition, or your wiper blades or indicators not working as quickly or efficiently as they ought to. Sometimes, however, a battery will fail without warning. This is because modern batteries are designed to work at optimal levels for as long as possible, so it may be a particularly brisk cold snap that acts as the nail in its coffin, or it may just fail to start after you've been on holiday and left it parked up for a week or more.

Protyre's mobile battery fitting service

A flat battery is incredibly frustrating, especially when it happens without warning. It can completely ruin your day, leave you without transport and render you unable to make the school run or get to work. At Protyre we understand how important your car is to you, so our qualified fitters are available for mobile car battery replacement, bringing a new battery to you, wherever you are, and getting you back on the road quickly and safely.

Our battery replacement service can be booked by phone or online at a time and location to suit you. Our mobile mechanics will come to your home, place of work, airport, or wherever you have broken down, perform a battery health check to determine that the battery is indeed the cause of your breakdown, and where replacement is required, swap your dead battery for a brand new, warrantied one which will keep you driving for years to come. They will even take your old battery away for disposal through the most sustainable route.

How long will a new battery last?

A new car battery will usually last between 3 and 5 years. Some will last longer, but others that are subjected to particular strains or of a lower quality may only last for a shorter duration. The main factors that affect how quickly a vehicle battery starts to fail are:

1. Extreme temperature fluctuations. Batteries that are regularly exposed to very hot temperatures or prolonged periods of very cold weather will wear out faster than those that are maintained at an average temperature year-round. If possible, store your car in a garage or other sheltered area when it's not being used to protect it from extreme heat variations.

2. Distance travelled. Cars that regularly travel short distances do not get enough time for the alternator to fully recharge their batteries. If possible, aim to take your vehicle on a long drive at least once a week to help it maintain battery life. Drivers that routinely perform journeys of 30 minutes [2] or more usually enjoy a longer battery life than those that only use their car for short local journeys.

3. Battery age. It goes without saying, but the longer that your battery has been fitted, the greater its likelihood of failing. If you have been driving your vehicle with the same battery for more than 3 years, you may wish to consider booking a free battery check at your local Protyre garage to ensure that it is still in strong enough condition to face the coming season.

AGM and EFB Battery Fitments Explained
If you have a Start-Stop engine, you need a Start-Stop battery. These batteries have been developed specifically for Start-Stop engines and can quickly recover power lost as a result of starting the engine. On many modern cars, the battery isn’t where you think it might be; other than in the engine bay, the battery can be found in the boot, under the passenger seat or under flooring. It can take up to two hours to change the battery on some vehicles! Even if the battery is in the traditional area, it can take a long time to fit a replacement battery; the battery box may be under another part or tucked behind a difficult to remove piece of equipment.
