One of the most important aspects of owning a vehicle is ensuring that it is well maintained and safe to drive. Every car has a battery, which performs a range of important roles, including providing the power which enables the heating elements or spark plugs to start your engine. So, choosing the right type of battery for your car is essential. There are a variety of different types of vehicle batteries, each of which has its own selection of benefits and unique features.

Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery

AGM batteries are designed for vehicles that have a start/stop functionality or have features that require extra power, such as integrated satnavs and heated seats. This type of battery doesn't contain any free flowing liquid, which makes them easy to recharge and extends their lifespan

Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery

Also referred to as valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries, SLA batteries are widely regarded as the safest type of car battery on the market today because it has an in-built valve which causes gas to release if pressure levels get too high.

Enhanced flooded battery (EFB)

Another example of a battery that is designed for start/stop vehicles which are designed to reduce emissions and optimise fuel usage, EFBs are more durable than traditional flooded batteries and provide enhanced performance for drivers.

As well as additives to the electrolytes, EFBs also have advanced separators which ensure that the acid is distributed evenly. This contributes to a longer battery lifespan, however, they do tend to be more expensive than other types of car battery
