TVR Cerbera Tyres

Following on from the soft top Griffith and Chimera, the Cerbera was the first coupe produced by the company under Peter Wheeler’s leadership and the prototype appeared at the 1993 London Motor Show. It was also the first car to use TVR’s own in-house AJP8 engine, previous models having used bought in Rover V8s. The AJP8 used design principles learned from racing to produce a very powerful engine, producing up to 420 BHP in some versions.
 
The car captured the imagination of enthusiasts and at the 1994 NEC Motor Show, TVR took orders for over 270 Cerberas. It’s easy to understand the enthusiasm. The Cerbera is dramatically styled with deep slots ahead of the doors to aid cooling of the engine. The sleek handle-less design is achieved by having the external door catches hidden under the wing mirrors.
 
Inside, the Cerbera is a four-seater, the front passenger seat has longer forward travel than the driver’s, allowing more leg room for rear passengers on that side and the doors are long to allow easier access to the rear. The design is unusual too, with a high centre tunnel and a distinctive sweeping dashboard. Another quirky feature is the minor instruments mounted behind the bottom half of the steering wheel and which move with the adjustable steering column. You will, of course, find lots of colour co-ordinated leather covering the seats, dash and transmission tunnel, offset by polished aluminium switches and pedals giving a classy feel.
 
Last produced in 2003 (apart from a one off ‘Last Cerbera’ built in 2006 and sold at auction), the Cerbera is now firmly planted in modern classic territory and is a car that’s cherished by its owners who like to keep their vehicles in pristine condition whilst still enjoying their performance.
