To add to the appeal of the range Peugeot has now announced a range-topping, four-wheel-drive, plug-in hybrid electric version, (PHEV) set to reach the UK in early 2020. The 3008 Hybrid4 (to give it its official title) has a 1.6 litre petrol engine, plus dual electric motors and a 13.2Kwh battery pack. The petrol engine drives the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and electric motors on each axle deliver all-wheel drive.
 
The 3008 PHEV has an electric-only range of 36 miles before you need to use the petrol power. Using a 7.4Kw charger the 3008 can be fully charged in around an hour and three-quarters. Total power is 296bhp and the car will achieve the 0-62 mph sprint in just under six seconds.
 
At launch, the 3008 Hybrid4 will only be available in GT trim. This features Alcantara and leather upholstery, digital gauges, an eight-inch infotainment screen and wood trim on the doors and dash. Other features include adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance. Peugeot is expected to launch a front-drive only version later which will have the same power train but without the rear electric motor.
 
The same power pack is also expected to appear in a plug-in hybrid version of the 508 saloon and estate later in 2020. The company aims to have a range of seven plug-in hybrids and four all-electric models on sale by the end of 2020. Peugeot is also developing greater levels of driver assistance which is likely to lead to some degree of autonomous driving being offered in future.
