At the budget end, the Sumitomo is a good buy. Their tyres are manufactured with some technical input and assistance from Goodyear and Dunlop. The Pirelli tyre is a good performer in winter conditions, but there is a small cost in miles per gallon, while the Falken Ziex Ecoruns are a very safe tyre with excellent wet weather handling. They are popular for their smooth and quiet rolling.

If the budget stretches, the Bridgestone Turanza gives a little more oomph on the open road and will eventually pay for itself in improved fuel economy.
