About Kia

The Kia Motor Company is a Korean car manufacturer with its headquarters in Seoul. After Hyundai - which is actually a minority owner of Kia - the Kia Motor Company is the second largest vehicle manufacturer in South Korea.

Kia was founded as Kyungsung Precision Industry in 1944 and the firm originally produced bicycle parts and steel components. Kia produced the first Korean bicycle in 1951, and the company changed its name to Kia shortly afterwards. From 1957, the firm manufactured Honda-licensed motorcycles, soon adding trucks and cars to its offering. The first Kia car assembly plant was opened in 1973, and the brand became known for its range of compact Brisa cars.
