BMW M8 Series

BMW M8 Series Tyres

The BMW M8, launched in June 2019, is the high-performance variant of the Bavarian manufacturer’s 8-Series coupe. It is in effect a road version of the M8 GTE competition car and replaces the earlier M6.

This follows BMW’s tradition of producing high-performance M versions of its model range. The M8 shares most of its powertrain with the M5 performance saloon. It’s powered by a 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The car has the X-Drive system which allows it to operate as a 4x4 for extra traction but also provides for the front axle to be disconnected so that it can become a traditional rear-drive car. As standard, the M8 is limited electronically to a top speed of 155 mph, however, there’s an M Driver package available as an option that includes removing the limiter and raising the speed to 189 mph.

All of this performance is kept in check by drilled, vented disc brakes all round. Carbon ceramic brakes are available from the options list. There’s also a specially developed brake control module on the M8 which gives you comfort and sport modes, these change the amount of pressure that is required on the brake pedal to stop the car.

Outside the M8 is distinguishable from the normal 8-Series thanks to a wider front grille, flared wheel arches, carbon fibre roof, rear spoiler and quadruple round exhaust outlets. There are also carbon fibre trim element and 20-inch M Sport wheels, together with black door mirrors and rear diffuser. There’s a convertible version of the M8 too which has a multi-layered fabric roof that folds into a dedicated compartment at the rear of the car so that it doesn’t impact boot space.

Inside the car are unique M Sport seats, gear selector and steering wheel along with digital instruments that are specific to this model. There are also M graphics on the car’s infotainment system which has a 10.25-inch screen display. The car uses BMW’s iDrive system which has a rotary control to handle all of the main functions of entertainment, navigation and phone.
