Aston Martin Valkyrie Tyres
The product of a collaboration between Aston Martin and F1 team Red Bull Racing, plus a number of other firms including Cosworth, Bosch and Michelin, the Valkyrie is a limited production run hybrid sports car and is claimed to be the fastest road legal car in the world.
Named after the Norse mythological figures who had the power of life and death over warriors when they went into battle, the Valkyrie was first unveiled to the public at 2019’s Silverstone British Grand Prix, before being displayed at the Geneva motor show later in the year. It uses an F1-inspired hybrid powertrain, with a 1,000bhp 6.5-litre V12 petrol engine mated to a 160bhp electric motor. The electric motor sits between the engine and the 7-speed automatic gearbox in a configuration inspired by Formula 1’s kinetic energy recovery system. This harvests energy under braking to recharge the car’s batteries. Braking is handled by carbon-ceramic discs to keep all of this power safely in check.
Outside, the Valkyrie has an ultra-aerodynamic design that is capable of generating more than 1,800 Kgs of downforce when travelling at speed. Even the wheels are designed to manage the airflow around the car, with 20-inch rims at the front and 21-inch at the rear, fitted with race-style centre nuts to save weight. The bodywork is made entirely of carbon fibre for lightness and strength with the total car weighing only around 1,100 Kgs. British company Wipac has developed LED lighting units especially for the Valkyrie.
Inside the car has a collection of screens in place of conventional instruments. One screen is mounted in the centre of the steering wheel - which is actually not a wheel at all but a racing car-inspired oblong and is removable for easy entry and exit - and there’s another in the centre of the dash. Even the exterior mirrors are replaced by cameras with their images shown on small screens either side of the cabin. Seats will be tailored to the body shape of the owner using a 3D scanning process.
