Best budget tyres

Buying a new set of tyres always sounds as though it will be an expensive business but this doesn’t have to be the case.

What tyres are available?

You will no doubt be aware that there are a huge range of tyres available and at an equally diverse range of prices. Tyres tend to fall into three categories: Premium, budget, and mid-range. As suggested by the names, these are categorised according to quality and cost. The different types will suit different drivers, levels of usage, in addition to varying budgets.

Premium

These carry a more significant price tag but are designed to endure a variety of conditions and demanding driving. Premium brands include; Pirelli, Michelin, Bridgestone, and Continental. Premium tyres are probably the best option for motorists who do a lot of long-distance driving, track driving, or off-road driving.

Mid-range

Mid-range tyres fit (cost and quality-wise) in between premium and budget tyres. They are more durable than budget options but not quite at the level of premium in terms of performance and durability. However, they do have the advantage of being cheaper than premium tyres.

Budget

If you need to change your tyres urgently, but you are short of cash, then budget tyres are a good way to tide you over. They can also be a good choice for drivers who only use their vehicle for small local journeys or for second cars that don’t get much use.

What am I sacrificing by opting for budget tyres?

In opting for budget tyres, you will sacrifice durability and quality and they may not last as long as their premium or mid-range counterparts. So, it is important to work out whether they will save you money in the long-term if you have to change them regularly. Budget tyres will still meet minimum safety standards.
