Are Pirelli Cinturato P7 good tyres?
Tyres are crucial for both performance and safety, but the vast array of products available can seem daunting. Many motorists prefer to keep things simple by opting for like-for-like replacements when their tyres need changing. This has its advantages, but it also may mean that they are missing out on the latest technology and developments. It is generally agreed that there are several tyre brands that are superior to the rest. One of these is Pirelli.
Pirelli
Founded in Milan way back in 1872, Pirelli is now a well-established global leader known for its high-quality tyres and use of cutting-edge technology. They have around 30,000 employees and a turnover in excess of 6bn euros. Pirelli manufactures tyres for cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.
Popular Pirelli tyres
Pirelli has produced a large number of popular tyres over the past 150 years, with one of the most recent being the Cinturato range.
The Cinturato range has been around for a number of years, and there are four key models: the Cinturato P7, Cinturato P1, Cinturato All Season Plus, and the Cinturato Winter. The Cinturato range is targeted at drivers who seek lower rolling resistance and the resulting lower CO2 emissions.
Cinturato P7 (P7C2)
The Cinturato P7 (P7C2) is the latest version of the P7 to leave the production line. This is a premium summer tyre that is designed for high-performance cars and crossovers. There is a strong focus on wet performance as we all know that summers are rarely rain free, in addition to mileage and rolling resistance.
This tyre is already being used on new cars from marques, including Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes, and Volvo.
The Cinturato P7 (P7C2) features an innovative chamfer design to help reduce braking distances and optimised grooves to reduce the risk of aquaplaning. The tread compound uses innovative design and materials that allow maximised adhesion of the footprint area, enhancing the grip. The tyre has a flat profile that offers lower rolling resistance and encourages more regular wear. The increased pitch sequence provides acoustic comfort and reduced noise pollution.
The Cinturato P7 (P7C2) is available in four sizes - some of which also feature Run-Flat and Seal-Inside technology, offering added protection against punctures. This tyre can also be fitted to high-performance electric and plug-in vehicles.
Overall, this tyre is able to deliver extremely high levels of safety, performance, and efficiency whilst also being highly sustainable and embracing the latest technological innovations. The Cinturato P7 (P7C2) features highly in the Auto Express list of "Best car tyres to buy now 2023".
Other models in the Cinturato 'family'
The Cinturato P1 is a premium tyre for urban use that provides comfort, safety, and control in both dry and wet conditions. It features dedicated materials and compounds and aerodynamic sidewalls, and its low weight allows for reduced rolling resistance. This tyre is available in sizes from 14-16 inches in diameter and is used on several models of BMW.
The Cinturato All Season Plus is a premium tyre that is 3PMSF-certified and designed for drivers living in urban areas. It features all of the latest Pirelli technologies, including Seal-Inside. The full silica tread compound offers safety on wet surfaces and reduced fuel consumption. The directional tread pattern design enhances both wet handling and braking performance. 3D sipe technology is utilised to provide improved handling and reduced braking distances on dry roads.
The Cinturato Winter tyre is designed to meet the needs of European drivers in the colder months and offers excellent safety and performance in all conditions. It features a number of special technologies developed for winter driving.
Pirelli vs Goodyear tyres
These two giants of the tyre world are both highly regarded, and there is not much to choose between many of their products. Goodyear's rival to the Cinturato P7 is probably the EfficientGrip Performance 2, but again, there is not much to choose between the two overall, with each one being generally popular and rated highly. The Cinturato P7 may have the edge in the dry, whilst the EfficientGrip Performance 2 probably wins in terms of comfort and is also slightly less expensive. Both of the above tyres feature in the Auto Express list of "Best car tyres to buy now 2023".
