Why you should rotate your tyres?

Do you want to get the most out of your tyres? If you want to optimise the lifespan of your tyres, you need to visit your local Protyre garage.

At Protyre, we can ensure your tyres are properly rotated so they wear evenly and you enjoy all the benefits that tyre rotation brings.

What is tyre rotation?

When you rotate the tyres of your vehicle, you move the rear tyres to the front of the vehicle using a rearward cross or X-pattern for four-wheel drives or a forward cross pattern for front wheel drives. This process should be carried out every 3,000 to 5,000 miles to even out the wear across your tyres. You can also opt to have the spare tyre rotated in if it’s a normal tyre.

Tyre rotation has a number of benefits, improving road handling and safety and saving you money:

Maximise tyre life

The most obvious benefit of tyre rotation is longer tyre life. Tyres tend to wear unevenly thanks to a variety of factors like road surface, driver habits and even the weather. Rotating your tyres periodically helps to avoid the problems of uneven wear by moving the rear tyres to the front and vice versa.

If your car is front wheel drive then tyre rotation can increase the life of your tyres by 20%. That’s a considerable saving on your overall running costs.

Improve fuel efficiency

If you know the connection between tyre performance and fuel economy, you’ll appreciate how tyre rotation can save you money at the pump. Tyre rotation helps to keep tyre friction as low and safe as possible. By spreading the wear evenly, stability and traction increase, your car runs much more smoothly and efficiently, and you’ll refuel less often.

The result? You need less petrol to propel your car. That’s better mileage for you and lower running costs when you hit the road.

Improve handling and performance

When your tyres wear more evenly, then you’ll enjoy greater ride stability and comfort. Swapping out worn tyres for those with fresher tread gives you better handling in the wet, with improved braking performance for greater safety. It’s often a good idea to have your tyres rotated before winter in order to benefit from improved grip in icy or snowy conditions.

You’ll find your vehicle is more responsive to acceleration, braking and cornering. Equally worn tyres also help your car maintain balance and front-end alignment, though you may ask your garage to include alignment and wheel balancing when you have your tyres rotated.

Save money

When you rotate your tyres you're saving money on costly repairs and filling up at the pump, not to mention the cost of a brand new set of four tyres. Spending a little on a simple procedure can save you in the long run. You’ll also have the peace of mind of knowing that your car is safe to drive even in challenging conditions, and that can be priceless.
