‘Wells Wednesdays’ back for 2010
17/03/10
CAR DRIVERS in Somerset are being offered an MOT for £25 this April (2010) at a vehicle maintenance centre in the county.
Following the success of its ‘Wells Wednesdays’ in 2008 and 2009, Wells Tyre Service on Webbs Close is once again offering car and 4x4 drivers the reduced price deal every Wednesday in April.
Richard Beauchamp, Manager of Wells Tyre Service, said: “We have held Wells Wednesdays in the past and they were a great success, so we decided to offer a special MOT price of £25 again on Wednesdays from April 7 until April 28.
“We hope that Wells Wednesdays will once again be a popular midweek money saver for motorists in Wells.”
Drivers wishing to take advantage of the Wells Wednesdays deal need to contact the centre in advance to book an appointment.
Richard added: “We’re expecting a lot of demand from motorists for this special offer because we think people are keen to get more for their money at the moment and when you consider a car owner normally has to pay more than £40 for an MOT, this is a bit of a bargain.
“There will also be discounts available to Wells Wednesdays customers on parts and services at the centre including batteries and exhausts.”
Wells Tyre Service specialises in providing tyres for all vehicles, exhausts, brakes, batteries, MOTs, suspension and servicing.

Free advice on keeping stress down in the car this summer
14/07/09
A TEAM of vehicle maintenance experts in Westbury are this month (July 2009) inviting motorists to find out how they can keep their families stress free and comfortable while travelling during the summer holidays.
Staff at Protyre Westbury on Station Road in Westbury are offering free advice to drivers on how to ensure their vehicle’s air conditioning is working efficiently and can cope with the ever increasing temperatures the UK is experiencing.
Nick Pickin, Manager of Protyre Westbury, said: “We are looking set for a really warm summer this year and with the Met Office already raising a Heat-Health Watch alert and advising people to stay out of the heat, it is vitally important to make sure any air conditioning units in vehicles are working efficiently.
“Driving in the heat without air conditioning can be a very stressful experience, particularly for families with young children. Making sure everything is running smoothly with your vehicle can help keep passengers calm in the warm weather and provide for a stress free journey.
“People often forget to service their air conditioning and, as a result, when the weather starts to heat up and they start using it more often, the air conditioning can stop working altogether and leave people in danger of overheating in their cars. Regular servicing can also save you money by not using up as much fuel.”
Nick continued: “We are urging anyone who may be concerned their air conditioning is not working properly or people who just want to make sure they are getting the most out of their air conditioning to get in touch. We’re happy to give people free advice on using air conditioning and driving fuel efficiently.
“At Protyre Westbury we can fully service most vehicles’ air conditioning units. During the service we can recover any old gas that is caught in the system, complete a vacuum test and change the oil.”

More Brits Holidaying In The UK Will Put Pressure on Tyres, Says Protyre
25/06/09
Consumer research by Protyre, the UK’s largest independent tyre dealer network, has revealed that the recession and the poor euro exchange rate is encouraging more people to forego a European summer break this year and switch to a UK holiday destination. Over 60% of people asked said that they will be holidaying in the UK this year and three quarters of that number said that they would be driving to their holiday destination.
With almost a quarter of cars and vans in the UK having at least one defective or badly worn tyre, and with more vehicles on the roads during the summer months, the prospect of a tyre failure or an accident, particularly in the wet, will be considerably increased says Protyre.
Protyre is offering motorists visiting anyone of the 36 outlets in the UK a free summer holiday tyre safety check together with advice on tyre care and use particularly when carrying more passengers or a fully loaded boot. The company is offering the following simple tyre advice to holidaying motorists;
> Check the correct tyre pressures against the manufacturer’s recommendations.
> Remember to adjust pressures for load.
> Clean dirt from around valves and fit valve caps all round
> Remove stones and other foreign objects from the tyre tread
> Ensure that tyres have at least 2.5 or 3mm of tread, remember the law requires a minimum of 1.6mm of tread.
> Have steering alignment checked if front tyres show sign of excessive or uneven wear.
> Have front wheels and tyres balanced if there are signs of vibration, wheel wobble or patchy tyre wear.
Previous research by Protyre indicated that the recession was also giving rise to motorists delaying the replacement of badly worn or defective tyres, putting their own and other road users’ lives at unnecessary risk. Protyre is the largest independent wholesaler, distributor and retailer of tyres in the UK, stocking the widest range of tyres at the most competitive prices
